Utah
Utah is a state that possesses a variety of colors unlike any place that I have ever been. Deep blue skies frame orange, red, pink and yellow rocks. On this trip, we were fortunate to encounter trees of green slowly turning to gold under an October sky. Despite vast, arid and empty landscapes -- Utah feels warm and homey. It's one of my very favorite places to visit. On this trip, we visited Zion & Bryce Canyons, and took a scenic drive up to Salt Lake City.

“The geologic formations of Zion—formed over approximately 250 million years—record periods of time when this area was covered by a shallow sea; when huge, sluggish rivers, bordered by swamplands, meandered across the landscape; and when a vast desert—perhaps the largest on the planet—covered the region.”
“It is the uniqueness of the rocks that caused Bryce Canyon to be designated as a national park. These famous spires, called “hoodoos,” are formed when ice and rainwater wear away the weak limestone that makes up the Claron Formation. However, the hoodoos’ geologic story is also closely tied to the rest of the Grand Staircase region and the Cedar and Black Mountains volcanic complex.”
