Mammoth and Mono Lakes
The Mammoth and Mono Lakes region of California straddles the border of Nevada in the middle of the state. It is where the spectacular Sierras begin to fade into the long stretches of Great Basin deserts. Traveling this area makes you feel like you are hopping from one part of the world to another. Spruce trees and snow capped peaks adorn the mountains while colorful sand scapes and sage brush fill the lower elevations.
